Visitor verdict
The published programme for 26–27 September 2026 gave the two days different focal points. Saturday 26 September listed the oiran procession at 16:00 and Shukuba Night from 17:00 to 20:30. Sunday 27 September listed the main and traffic-safety parades around noon, followed by Shinagawadera’s firewalking rite at 13:00. The optional paid 70-minute cruise was a separate activity in the published plan, with Saturday departures listed at 11:30, 13:00 and 14:30. The 2026 schedule is best understood as a sequence of activities along a long historic street, rather than one stage with uniform opening hours. Its procession, temple and night programmes offered different ways to interpret the post-town setting. Their spread along the Old Tokaido explains why station choice, walking between locations and crowd controls mattered to that published plan; this is historical programme context, not an invitation to attend the expired schedule. Any future visit centred on these activities would require newly published official programme information.
Practical information
- Booking status
- This event has ended. Outdated ticket and booking guidance is hidden; check the official source for a future edition.
- Access
- The festival stretches along the former Tokaido from Kita-Shinagawa through Shin-Bamba toward Aomono-Yokocho. Use the station closest to your chosen programme instead of treating one station as the entrance to everything. No festival parking is provided; confirm current road and bus controls before travel.
- Rain
- Stages and individual activities may be cancelled or changed. Check the organizer timetable and weather on the day rather than assuming every listed item will proceed.
- Crowds
- For the published 26–27 September 2026 programme, the main processions, temple activities and Saturday night period were potential points of concentrated visitor flow along the narrow historic street. Extra time for movement through controlled sections was a planning consideration for that edition. This describes the historical programme’s possible crowd pattern, not observed crowd levels or current arrival advice. Planning arrival or movement for any future programme would require fresh official information about its schedule and crowd controls.
Recommended for
Travellers interested in Edo-period post-town history, street processions and local festival traditions, especially those willing to select one day and one anchor programme before arriving.
Not recommended for
A poor fit for visitors expecting one fixed venue, uniform all-day hours or a fully documented step-free route. The official pages do not establish a complete accessible route or a final return service for the whole corridor.
Nearby / itinerary
- Nearby spots
- The Old Tokaido streetscape and Shinagawadera are part of the festival corridor itself. Add other sightseeing only if there is a clear gap between the programme you chose and your return journey.
- Itinerary hint
- As an archive of the published 26–27 September 2026 plan, Saturday could have been structured around the afternoon oiran procession or the 17:00–20:30 night programme, with the paid cruise considered separately. Sunday’s alternative anchors were the noon parade and the 13:00 firewalking rite. These were different programme choices, not a single continuous route covering everything. This is historical itinerary context, not a current visit or booking plan. Any future visit linked to these activities would require a newly published official programme and fresh confirmation of dates, availability and transport.
