Kanazawa Castle / Kenrokuen Autumn Night Illumination

This is a two-venue night walk rather than an extension of ordinary daytime sightseeing. In Kenrokuen, the published lighting includes Kotoji Lantern, Karasaki Pine and the fountain; across Kanazawa Castle Park, the focus shifts to illuminated castle architecture, stone walls and Gyokusen'inmaru Garden. Selected nights also have short traditional-music performances around Uchihashitei by Kasumigaike, but the programme may change. Use the evening as its own visit. The public window is only two or three hours, the Kotoji Lantern area can become one-way for safety, and moving between the garden and castle takes time. Choose a starting gate, continue through the adjacent venue instead of repeatedly doubling back, and decide the return bus or taxi before entering. The outer castle walls may remain lit until 22:00, but park admission still ends at 20:45 and the gates close at 21:00.

Access

Published night entrances are Renchimon, Mayumizaka and Kodatsuno for Kenrokuen, and Ishikawamon, Gyokusen'inmaru and Nezumitamon for Kanazawa Castle Park. Ishikawamon and Renchimon are the practical adjacent pair when combining both areas; follow that night's signs because some routes are one-way and some areas are closed. For a simple sequence, start in Kenrokuen for Kotoji Lantern and Kasumigaike, then cross by Ishikawamon to the castle buildings and Gyokusen'inmaru, or reverse the order if your return stop is easier from the garden side. Check the current Kanazawa Light-up Bus or regular evening timetable before entering; a published outbound option is not proof of a suitable bus after 21:00.

Rain

The organizer says the event may be cancelled or changed depending on conditions. Check the official event notice and local weather on the day; wet paths and autumn darkness can make the garden route slower even when the lighting proceeds.

Crowds

The Kotoji Lantern area is expected to be busy and may operate one-way for safety. Arrive well before 20:45 if you want both Kenrokuen and Kanazawa Castle Park. The 22:00 exterior-wall lighting is visible context outside the normal park programme, not later admission.

Nearby spots

Keep daytime Kenrokuen, museums and shopping as a separate block with their own hours. Take a break before returning for the night route; trying to carry a full daytime circuit straight into both illuminated sites leaves little margin for queues, one-way movement and the journey back.

There are no October dates. Before travelling, reconfirm the date, same-day cancellation or route changes, concert programme, open gates, one-way controls and the final return service.
