The 111th Suimeikai — Pontocho

The programme opens with the tokiwazu piece Matsu no Hagoromo and the kiyomoto work Yasuna, then expands into the nagauta sequence Hana Koi Pontocho Ade Kurabe. Its sections move through Sukeroku, Onna Date, Yoshiwara Suzume, Shichifukujin, Rokusai Nenbutsu, Shizuhata Obi, Fuji Ondo and Sagi Musume before the finale. Access

Pontocho Kaburenjo is about five minutes on foot from Keihan Sanjo Station exit 6. The organizer also lists about ten minutes from Hankyu Kyoto-Kawaramachi Station exit 1 and five minutes from the Kawaramachi Sanjo bus stop. There is no venue parking.

Rain

The performance is indoors. The narrow streets and walk from Sanjo or Kawaramachi are the weather-sensitive part, so allow extra time before the 15:00 doors.

Crowds

The organizer does not publish a crowd forecast. The official shop warns that unreserved admission may become standing room if seats are full; this is a condition, not a statement of current availability.

Nearby spots

The theatre can anchor a Pontocho and central Kyoto afternoon. Plan any riverside or neighbourhood walk before the 15:00 doors, and avoid fixing a post-show reservation to an assumed finish time.
