MINIATURE LIFE 2: Tatsuya Tanaka's World of Miniatures — Sapporo

A baumkuchen becomes a rainbow in お菓子な虹, while sushi becomes a city in おスシティー. Comparing the photographed scenes with the miniature objects makes the shifts of scale and viewpoint part of the visit. Two Hokkaido-exclusive works take their subject from HTB’s television programme 水曜どうでしょう: 胃袋ギュウギュウ、モ〜限界 and 失“パイ”は成功のもと. These local additions give returning fans something specific to seek out, alongside photo spots that place visitors inside a miniature-world setting.

Tickets / booking

Current regular admission is ¥1,500 for adults, ¥800 for high-school/university students and ¥500 for elementary/junior-high students; preschool children enter free. Elementary-school children and younger must be accompanied by a guardian, who also needs a ticket. Disability certificate holders and one carer enter free; Mirairo ID is accepted. Current tickets are sold at the museum and through Asoview, among the organizer’s listed outlets. Advance-ticket sales ended on 11 September.

Access

Go to Gallery B, Hokkaido Museum of Modern Art, Kita 1 Nishi 17, Chuo-ku. Nishi-18-chome Station on the Tozai subway line is about five minutes away via exit 4; the Doritsu Kindai Bijutsukan bus stop is about one minute away. Using the museum’s full name and address avoids confusing it with Sapporo’s other art museums.

Rain

The photographs, miniature works and photo spots are indoors. Allow for the outdoor five-minute walk from Nishi-18-chome; the published museum-bus-stop route is shorter if it suits your journey.

Crowds

The organizer permits photography of all works, without tripods or flash. Photo spots are part of the exhibition, but the museum does not promise a particular queue length or immediate access to each one. The opening talk and signing are past events, not recurring sessions available with a current exhibition ticket.

Nearby spots

Keep this stop in the Nishi-18-chome area of central Sapporo. It works as a focused museum outing without the separate journey to Sapporo Art Park.
