Autumn Close-Up View of Ryoma

The main attraction is the change of viewpoint. From the ground, Ryoma stands high above you; from the seasonal platform, his side profile and the horizon become the focus. The organizer also provides a giant Ryoma face-in-hole panel for commemorative photographs. This is a short outdoor viewing experience, with the sea and the statue as its subjects. It adds a reason to time a Katsurahama visit for autumn if Ryoma or landmark photography interests you. For a separate museum visit, the optional combination ticket includes the Kochi Prefectural Sakamoto Ryoma Memorial Museum. The platform admission alone does not include that museum.

Platform admission is ¥200; preschool children enter free. An optional adult ¥900 same-day ticket combines the platform with the Kochi Prefectural Sakamoto Ryoma Memorial Museum. It is sold at either facility until 16:30. The ¥900 ticket is not required for the platform alone; allow time for the two separate visits before choosing it.

Access

The platform is beside the Ryoma statue in Katsurahama Park, Urado, Kochi. The organizer lists a roughly 35-minute Tosaden bus journey from JR Kochi Station toward Katsurahama. The MY遊 sightseeing bus also links Kochi Station, Harimayabashi, Godaisan and Katsurahama. Check the operator’s return timetable before leaving the city. Corrected parking charges are ¥500 for a passenger car and ¥1,500 for a large bus.

Rain

Rain or strong winds can close the temporary platform, even during the advertised season and hours. Before travelling specifically for the elevated view, use the Kochi City Tourism Association’s event page and its linked official social accounts for the day’s operating information. Keep the coastal part of your plan flexible.

Crowds

Weekends and Japanese public holidays open at 08:00, one hour earlier than weekdays; all scheduled days finish at 17:00. The organizer does not publish a live queue or remaining-entry count, so an early opening time should not be treated as a promise of an empty platform.

Nearby spots

Katsurahama’s ground-level coast and the elevated statue view offer different perspectives on the same setting. The Ryoma Memorial Museum is a separate stop for visitors who want to add a museum visit to the outdoor experience; its combination ticket has its own 16:30 sales deadline.

Confirm the weather-dependent opening first, then arrange the platform around your Katsurahama bus journey and return service. View the statue from the ground before going up to appreciate the change in scale and angle.
